Mykel Derring, a former Division I player at Merrimack College and Nichols College, brings championship experience and a passion for developing young athletes to Arsenal AAU. With multiple collegiate titles and high school championships under his belt, Mykel has been shaped by legendary mentors like Hugh Coleman and Zachery Ray and has been part of SHAD Nation since age 13. As an assistant coach at Cathedral High School, he is eager to teach Arsenal players the fundamentals of effort, discipline, and toughness, showing them how lessons on the court apply to life. His coaching philosophy centers on staying locked in, working hard, and constantly improving. Mykel’s favorite advice to his players: “Excuses are for people who don’t work hard enough,” and “Listen to what’s being said, not how it’s being said.”
